Overview
—–
It was truly a beautiful evening last night, for us in the Comune of Levizzano Rangone, in the province of Modena. Thanks to the work of Antonio Verrascina (thanks Antonio – really, you’re great!) and the staff of AV Events (also a big thanks to Clara for the hospitality and courtesy: thanks for the support and guidance!), yesterday evening a large group of lucky people and the inhabitants of a beautiful medieval village in the hills of Modena were able to enjoy two hours of great music in the company of the extraordinary Paul Gilbert.
We too feel very lucky because, in addition to enjoying the clinic / concert, thanks to Riccardo Cappelli (Paul Gilbert’s clinic tour manager this summer in Italy), we were able to interview Paul Gilbert just as we were relaxing in the shade (and practicing with an amp to check everything) in one room of the castle, including having a drink and some fruit. What could be better than that!
We followed the clinic, trying to get as much documentation as possible: with pictures, audio, and video. We are preparing the report of the evening, the video material. For now only an advance of some photos and a couple of videos are presented — those taken directly from the phone. The video quality is not high, as it was night and there was too little light for the weak sensor of the phone. Soon we will post some camera shots, and as soon as possible, the wonderful interview!
Last but not least: GRAZIE PAUL!! For your availability, humanity, courtesy and friendliness … and how you have endured my broken English!

Equipment

Paul has used the now-famous Ibanez Fireman. He also used Marshall Vintage Modern amps, both a single head with a 4 * 12 cabinet, and a combo. Paul only uses the distortion channel, and, hear hear, uses an ad hoc pedal (Detox EQ) to “clean up” the sound of the distortion channel of the Marshall.
Pedals: Paul uses pedals very unique. Among which, the Ibanez Airplane Flanger, used in a “crazy” mode as he himself says. He also uses various Rotosound effects obtained from the chorus. To save the settings positions of the knobs, Paul uses a very sophisticated system: the masking tape!

In general, it is really impressive how Paul manages to pull off, on one channel of a Marshall, a sound so warm, dynamic, immersive, full and mellow, while not using any effects of the environment… truly extraordinary when you say (the sound is in) your hands!

Special thanks to the audience, who were large and enthusiastic; the agency who acted as an organizer of the event; Franco and the team at GuitarList; the staff, technicians, and employees; everyone who allowed us to work and give greater visibility to this amazing event; and of course the legendary Paul Gilbert, who has literally captivated his audience from the very first minute he took the stage.
